As you may know, our department has been working diligently to come up with a plan to safely offer Rec Camp to South Portland families this summer while meeting the state guidelines for Day Camps under the Governor's Phase 2 reopening plan. Although we are still working out camp details and safety protocols with the City Safety Coordinator and Health Officer, we wanted to let you know that we are moving forward with three modified camps this summer at three separate facilities (South Portland Community Center, Redbank Community Center and a section of South Portland High School). Due to limited facilities, we will not be able to provide camp for 7th and 8th graders.
 
Please understand that camp will be much different this summer and will not look like your traditional day camp. Changes include but are not limited to:




  • Limited enrollment of 40 children per camp


  • Limited or no field trips


  • Strict safety protocols


  • Extensive hand washing and sanitizing of equipment & facilities


  • Campers remain in same group of 10 for entire summer


  • No intermingling of groups & designated group space


  • Health checks before coming to camp


  • Continued social distancing when possible


  • Campers will be required to bring a mask to camp every day to wear when social distancing is not possible.




These camps are for South Portland residents who need childcare this summer. Priority will be given to essential workers and those that need care in order to return to work. 
 
The document below outlines the changes to operations that we have made to rec camp this year. These changes were made in consultation with our City Safety Coordinator and City Health Officer and match up with the Governor's guidelines on Summer Day Camp.

Although we will be taking significant safety measures at camp this summer in order to protect campers and staff, our goal is to make camp as fun and enjoyable as possible through outdoor play, creative games, arts and crafts, walking fields trips, small group events and more.

SIGN UP PROCESS




  • Sign up with a $0 fee on May 27 (this does not mean you are registered).


  • Sign up times: 9:00 am - Little Riots Camp (Gr. K-2), 10:00 am - Big Riots Camp (Gr. 3-4) & 5/6 Camp (Gr. 5-6)


  • On June 3 we will confirm whether or not your child was selected for camp this summer and a 50% deposit will be due at that time.


  • Remaining balance due by June 12.

ALL CAMPS
Dates: June 22 – August 14 (8 weeks)
Days: Monday - Friday
Times 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Fee: $675.00

*Must sign up for entire 8 weeks (no pick up a week option this year) 
*No Camps on July 13 & 14 due to elections.
*Camp delayed start of 9:00 am on July 15.

Little Riots Camp
Grades: Entering Grades K-2
Location: South Portland Community Center

Big Riots Camp
Grades: Entering Grades 3-4
Location: Redbank Community Center
 
5-6 Camp
Grades: Entering Grades 5-6
Location: Weeks 1-6: South Portland High School, Highland Ave entrance
              Weeks 7-8: Tent outside SPCC (with access to SPCC when necessary)
