Pollinator Bioblitz

bioblitz
Our city is on a mission to catalog all of our pollinators and pollinator friendly plants and we need your help as a citizen scientist!

Bioblitz is a national event, organized by the National Recreation and Parks Association The event is used to recruit people to help gather data and utilizes these citizen science to get a better understanding of the pollinators and pollinator friendly plants in each city. This year, South Portland will be hosting our own event on the 24th of September (10am-2pm). Tables will be set up at Bug Light Park, Mill Creek Park, and Hinckley Park so participants can join us wherever is best for them.

Once at the park, participants will use the iNaturalist app on their cell phones to take pictures of, identify, and catalog the plants and insects they see throughout the day. All of this data goes into one shared data base for the city and we are then able to use it to help us in our pollinator conservation efforts.

This is a great way to get involved in the conservation of your city and to learn all about pollinators! You can take pictures the entire time or just snap a few on your walk in the park.
