The Perseid Meteor Shower is always one of the best meteor showers of the year, but it will be even brighter than usual in 2023 because it peaks near the new moon. Join us in Wainwright to learn about star identification, hear some constellation stories, and- of course- see some shooting stars!

August 12th, 2023:
7:45pm- sunset, arrive and set up
8:15-9:15pm (roughly)- constellation stories and guided night sky viewing
9:15-10:00pm- people are free to watch the meteor shower

Here's what we recommend you bring:
a blanket or a chair to sit on
a headlamp or flashlight (these will need to be off during the program but are great for before and after)
binoculars or telescopes, if you have them and want to set up

No registration required, but children must be accompanied by an adult. 


If there is bad weather, we will have to cancel the event. Updates will be posted on our South Portland Parks and Rec. Facebook page.
