South Portland Recreation is teaming up with South Portland Middle School to provide on-site after school clubs at SPMS. All programs will be done in time to get on the late bus or the late-late bus home from SPMS.

Pickleball - Instructor: Dave Cousins (IPF Certified Pickleball Coach, PPR Certified Pickleball Coach, PTR Certified Professional, USPTA Elite Professional)
Join us for an exciting five-week pickleball program designed specifically for middle school students! Whether you're new to the game or looking to sharpen your skills, this after school program is a fun and engaging way to stay active and learn the fundamentals of pickleball. Each session will cover essential skills like serving, volleying, and teamwork, along with friendly games to put your new techniques into practice. Our experienced instructors will provide guidance and tips to help all participants improve and enjoy the game.
min 8 / max of 12 each session

Rugby - Instructor: Gareth Roberts (Bowdoin College Rugby Head Coach)
In partnership with the Portland Rugby Football Club (PRFC), we are excited to introduce the sport of Rugby to our community. This 5-week youth instructional program will emphasize the mechanics and skills of the game in a safe, fun environment. Players will learn the basics of playing offense and defense, passing and receiving, teamwork, and sportsmanship -- all in a friendly flag-football-style setting.

Karate - Instructor: Dragon Fire Martial Arts  WINTER 1 NEW START DATE JAN.16
Students in this class will learn the basic strikes, blocks, kicks and stances used in karate training. This fundamental training also strengthens and prepares the body for the more difficult techniques ahead in one’s training. In addition to developing physical fitness, self-defense and safety skills, our karate program also helps your child build confidence, focus and respect for oneself and others.
min 10 / max of 25 each session

Drawing - Instructor: Pauline Cook WINTER 1 NEW START DATE JAN.16
Become comfortable making your own mark. This course introduces the fundamental elements of this all-important skill. 
min 8 / max of 15 each session

First Aid Certification - Instructor: City of South Portland Safety Coordinator and Former Deputy Fire Chief Lou Cavallaro
Each 2 day session will prepare and certify each attendee on adult and pediatric first aid and CPR/AED. This certification partners well with Babysitting and Child Care Courses.
