Beginner Soft Pastel
Impressionistic Street Scenes
This five class series will teach beginner pastel artists how to create colorful street scenes using an impressionistic approach. Students will learn how to simplify buildings, streets, storefronts, and urban details into shapes, values, and color masses. We will explore composition, perspective, and color while focusing on capturing the feeling and atmosphere of a scene rather than every detail. In addition, students will learn how to use soft pastels to achieve both a sketch and finished painting look. All classes will include step-by-step instructions. All supplies are included in class.
Landscapes
This five class series will teach beginner pastel artists how to create landscape paintings using soft pastels. Students will learn how to simplify trees, skies, water, fields, and natural scenery into shapes, values, and color relationships. We will explore atmospheric perspective, composition, and color while creating both quick studies and finished landscape paintings. All classes will include step-by-step instructions. All supplies are included in class.
Cats and Dogs
This five class series will teach beginner pastel artists how to draw and paint beloved pets using soft pastels. Students will learn how to simplify animal forms into shapes, understand basic proportions, capture expression and personality, and use color effectively to create lifelike pet portraits. Subjects will include a variety of cats and dogs. All classes will include step-by-step instructions. All supplies are included in class.
