Astro Innovators: Set your future space explorers on a trajectory from Earth's atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system! This hands-on program brings them closer to the stars, planets, comets, and more. They learn about living in space, getting away from gravity, looking for space phenomena, and they participate in a rocket launch!Radical Robots: Children learn about the use of robots in the world and spend time experimenting with super cool robots. They discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. They will also build their very own working robot to take home with them!Underground Explorers: Kids learn about archaeology and techniques scientists used to excavate long lost cities! They discover ancient civilizations and the tools and artifacts they used in every day life! They also study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils. Each class also includes a make and take-home project, like a fossil reproduction, an amber time capsul, and coins from around the world!

 Beginner Soft Pastel: Birds:  This five class series will teach beginner pastelists how to create realistic and interesting bird portraits using soft pastel, graphite, and charcoal.  We trace printed photos of birds which eliminates the need of drawing skills in the class.  Beginner Soft Pastel: Beautiful PlacesThis five class series will teach beginner pastelists how to draw and paint beautiful landscape locations.  In addition, students will learn how to use pastels to achieve both a sketch and finished painting look.  All classes will include step-by-step instructions. No experience needed.  Supplies are included in class. Instructor: Joan Quinn

Pack your picnic lunch and join us as we head to New Harbor to Colonial Pemaquid and Fort William Henry to spend a leisurely summer afternoon exploring the fort, enjoying a picnic and the view. You will see an 18th century Fort House, as well as a partial early 20th-century reconstruction of Fort William Henry and its tower.

We will meet the owner, have a quick overview and she will orient us on our way to a self-guided tour. We will walk through the Dahlia fields and the perimeter path around the farm. Beginner Thumbnail sketches with ink and watercolorThis five class series will teach beginners how to complete animal and figure sketches with ink and watercolor.  No experience needed.  We will be learning how to use gesture and value to effectively capture an image or scene.  Beginner Skills in Drawing Street Scenes and Landscapes:  This five class series will teach beginners how to approach drawing street scenes and landscapes from multiple techniques including gesture drawings, contour drawings, as well as value based drawings.  We will explore how to work both quickly and slowly at sketches.  Beginner Skills in Drawing People:This five class series will teach beginners how draw people in landscape scenes, as well as portrait settings.  We learn tips and tricks for capturing accurate proportions for adults and children. All classes will include step-by-step instructions.  No experience needed.  Supplies are included in class. Beginner Thumbnail sketches with ink and watercolorThis five class series will teach beginners how to complete animal and figure sketches with ink and watercolor.  No experience needed.  We will be learning how to use gesture and value to effectively capture an image or scene.  Beginner Skills in Drawing Street Scenes and Landscapes:  This five class series will teach beginners how to approach drawing street scenes and landscapes from multiple techniques including gesture drawings, contour drawings, as well as value based drawings.  We will explore how to work both quickly and slowly at sketches.  Beginner Skills in Drawing People:This five class series will teach beginners how draw people in landscape scenes, as well as portrait settings.  We learn tips and tricks for capturing accurate proportions for adults and children. All classes will include step-by-step instructions.  No experience needed.  Supplies are included in class. Come to the senior center and enjoy a morning of quiet puzzle making, 100-500 piece puzzles only (provided or bring your own) or work on bigger puzzles on the puzzle table.

Cheer on the sidelines this fall at South Portland Youth Football games! This fun, team-based program builds leadership, confidence, and cheerleading fundamentals in a supportive, lower-stress environment than competitive cheer. Athletes will learn sideline chants and a halftime routine featuring stunts, jumps, tumbling, and dance. With a strong focus on teamwork, community spirit, and crowd engagement, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the sport, build friendships, and shine on the field!
